A VERY MERRY XMAS and AN UNEARTHLY UPDATE

Image
Hello folks! Unfortunately, with all the hussle and bussle of the festive season I haven’t been able to put together a longer post. But I wanted to post something this Christmas week. So I here is a quick update to one of my earlier posts.  Back in November I posted about this statue  here . It’s been around since the beginning of Doctor Who and was still about in the late Eighties. I thought I’d found all the occasions it had been used but as always with prop hunting, there are still more to be found.  THE TIME MONSTER, 1972 Can’t believe I missed this one but there you go. As you can see several statues appear on the Atlantis Plaza set. To fit their surroundings their dresses have had a lick of paint. THE GOODIES, 1973 In my original post I included an appearance in a 1977 edition of The Goodies. But a couple of these statues had already appeared four years earlier. The episode is That Old Black Magic. I don’t know if it means anything but in both Goodies episodes the s...

SENSORITE STOOL SAMPLES

Image
This week’s prolific props are these rather alien looking stools from The Sensorites. These multipurpose items were a mainstay of the Hartnell years, popping up in a number of stories. However their popularity with designers seems not to have extended beyond the Sixties, as exotic visions of the future gave way to the more utilitarian design of the Seventies.  THE SENSORITES, 1964 It’s the story I most associate with these stools and it’s the earliest appearance I can find. The Sensorites features two different sizes of stool. We will see both versions pressed into action in future stories. THE SPACE MUSEUM, 1965 1965 seems to have been the banner year for these beauties with the bulk of their appearances coming from this year. The Space Museum was up first, broadcast between April and May 1965. A number of the taller props where used as displays for Museum exhibits. GALAXY 4, 1965 September and October 1965 sees the shorter props on the set of Galaxy 4 in the Drahvin ship. They se...

DULKIS DISPLAYS

For this post I am taking a slightly different approach compared to what I have done so far. Rather than looking for a particular prop I am concentrating on a set and seeing what can be found. The set in question is the War Museum from The Dominators. Because with a museum you’ll have exhibits and that means lots of props to look at.  THE DOMINATORS, 1968 Above is a clear view of the War Museum set. Sadly there is no way I can identify everything here. But I have been able to locate three of the Museum exhibits. Below are the objects I’ll be looking at.   Probably the most known element of the War Museum is the saucer shaped Cyber-ship hanging above the door. This model was originally seen in The Moonbase. Season 6 features another Museum in The Seeds of Death, the sequel to The Ice Warriors. These two Museums share a bit of common DNA as hanging from the ceiling of both institutions is this cone shaped prop.  This last one is a little contentious but I am confident these...
