THE GREY ONE

Image
Following last weeks return to the lair of BOSS there was one more prop on this set I wanted to look at. I’ve previously looked at a wide bodied blue computer console, but this time it’s this grey one that I’m looking at.   THE GREEN DEATH, 1973 You can see the grey computer console in the middle of this picture. There is a second one tucked in on the right, hidden from this view. The BOSS set is so full of stuff this prop is actually the tenth object, with total of fourteen props, that I have looked at and there is still more stuff to identify. THE THREE DOCTORS, 1972 The year before The Green Death one of the grey computers was seen in UNIT’s top secret HQ. THE HAND OF FEAR, 1976 By the late 70’s the whirly tape computer had started to look a little passé. For The Hand of Fear Designer Christine Ruscoe took a number of the grey computer units and placed another panel where the tapes would go. THE PIRATE PLANET, 1978 But a couple of years later and the tapes were back. THE DOOMBO...

QUICK UPDATE SEPTEMBER

Image
As always, the hunt goes on. And it often throws up stuff I had previously missed. So it’s time for another round up of updates.                                                                                                                     Back at the beginning of this month I looked at these panels in The Pirate Planet, The Armageddon Factor and more. Well, I’ve found one I missed and it’s also from the key to time season. . THE POWER OF KROLL, 1978 THE ARMAGEDDON FACTOR, 1979 In the post about these panels I highlighted a large example from The Armageddon Factor. But also in this story is a smaller panel in the Marshall’s module. If you look at the top you can see the three rows of lights ...

A PIRATE PANEL?

Image
Hello folks! This week I’m looking at some late 70s props that may not be exact matches but definitely share some common DNA. And my starting point was this octagon panel. As far as I can tell this prop is only seen in one Doctor Who story… THE PIRATE PLANET, 1978 The octagon panel is on the Pirate Captain’s bridge, in the middle of this image. Unlike the other examples we are looking to look at, on this occasion it has been illuminated.  REDEMPTION, 1979 The only other example exactly matching the Pirate Planet panel is this one from Blake’s 7.  As mentioned above, here they haven’t bothered to turn the lights on. THE ARMAGEDDON FACTOR, 1979 Although I haven’t found any more exact matches, there are a few variants that feature the same elements. Look at the top and bottom of this prop from The Armageddon Factor, and compare to the inset image from Redemption. There are the same four, yellow coloured, rectangles. And in between those, a smaller white rectangle and small lights...
