Doctor Who Prop Hunt

This one comes courtesy of Zoe’s Feather Boa who posted about it on a thread on Bluesky. It’s a small unit featuring three distinctive chunky levers. As we will see this prop features in several Sixties stories.  THE SENSORITES, 1964 The first appearance of this prop. Here you can see it front and centre being used by Maitland (Lorne Cossette) THE TENTH PLANET, 1966 It next appears at the very end of the Hartnell era. It’s in the very middle of the picture on the set of the Zeus IV. THE POWER OF THE DALEKS, 1966 And then it appears in the very next story. This time it’s wall mounted. THE MOONBASE, 1967 And again, it’s wall mounted in this Troughton Cyber tale.  FURY FROM THE DEEP, 1968 And one last Sixties appearance. Those distinctive chunky levers seem to have been painted a darker hue. 

Hello folks! I must apologise for the lateness of this post. I usually like to get something out every weekend, but just didn’t have anything ready last week. Hopefully I should be back to a regular schedule this coming weekend. In the meantime here is a short post about chrome discs! I know, I know, I spoil you guys. THE POWER OF THE DALEKS, 1966 The objects we are looking at are the large chrome discs at appear on the arches of the Dalek capsule. If you are not sure what I’m referring to, they are on the left of this image. An arch of five of these discs are to the left of the door. And a further three discs can be seen in a row behind. I’m calling these ‘silver frisbees’. THE WHEEL IN SPACE, 1968 A couple of years later and the frisbees are used as set dressing once more. COLONY IN SPACE, 1971 This is the last appearance I have found. And it’s possible I might be going out in a limb with this one. But I think the silver frisbees are used on the front of IMC’s space buggies.  UPD...

Hey! I’m a bit late with this weeks post. And unfortunately I’ve not had a lot of time to devote to the hunt. But I do have a couple of updates on previous props I have looked at. First up the Sensorite Stools I first looked at here .  It seems I missed a couple of Doctor Who stories that feature these props. By coincidence it’s the two Troughton Dalek tales.  THE POWER OF THE DALEKS, 1966 THE EVIL OF THE DALEKS, 1967 The other prop I wanted to update is the fireplace from The Visitation  In my original posted I mentioned a few different shows where this appears. But there is one appearance I knew about but had forgotten to include. It’s an episode of Yes Minister called The Whiskey Priest.  YES MINISTER, 1982
