GOODY GOODY UPDATE

Image
A quick update slash correction to my last post. I was previously looking for props from The Goodies and had inadvertently found a number of items from Gerry Anderson’s UFO. You can see what I found here .  Amongst the props featured in that post was a pair of blue computer consoles. These were originally from UFO (in SHADO’s HQ), they crop up in The Goodies, and they are also found in several Doctor Who stories of the Seventies. UFO / THE GOODIES / THE TIME WARRIOR One of the stories I said featured these props was Destiny of the Daleks. And the picture I used to demonstrate this was this one.  DESTINY OF THE DALEKS, 1979 However, even quickly looking this picture it’s very easy to see that this is not the same prop. I was certain I had seen the right blue computer in Destiny so I went back to look at it again, and here it is.  DESTINY OF THE DALEKS, 1979, right pic this time! The geography of the Dalek control room is a little confusing. Something that’s not helped by t...

GOODY GOODY PROP PROP?

Image
It’s been a bit of a break but I’m back to look at some more recycled Classic Doctor Who props. This post actually started life as something else but has turned into a line of enquiry that might keep me busy for a while.  Before Xmas I posted an update confirming I’d found one of the Unearthly Statues in an episode of The Goodies. The Goodies is a show I watch for fun so it wasn’t long before I’d found another one! That got me thinking that I have probably missed lots of Doctor Who props hiding in this 1970s BBC comedy. So the original idea of this post was to check as many episodes of the Cricklewood three as I could to see what I could find.  THE TIME MONSTER, 1972 / CUNNING STUNTS, 1975 A couple of quick ones to start. As I said I have found another of the statues from An Unearthly Child, The Time Monster and a whole bunch of other stories. You can read all about them here . This now makes 14 different shows or episodes that feature these statues. Cunning Stunts was an epi...

SQUIRE JOHN’S FIREPLACE

Image
Happy New Year! I’m writing this on New Years Day as the UK is being blasted with some extreme weather. So let’s gather round the fireplace to keep warm. And not just any old fireplace. This one has quite the comedy pedigree.  MONTY PYTHONS FLYING CIRCUS, 1969 Starting, as always, at the earliest appearance. You can see the fireplace on the far right of this screen grab. It’s mostly obscured but is identifiable by the carved design that runs across of top. This is the first of number of comedy appearances. The episode is from Python’s first season and is titled The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Goes to the Bathroom. THE VISITATION, 1982 The fireplace appears in the 17th Century Manor House of Squire John in Eric Saward’s Season 19 story.  BLACKADDER II, 1986 Back to the comedy and a classic at that. The fireplace can be found in the residence of Lord Edmund Blackadder himself.  GRACE & FAVOUR, 1992 And finally, the fireplace appears in this early 90s sequel to Are You ...
