QUICK UPDATE SEPTEMBER

Image
As always, the hunt goes on. And it often throws up stuff I had previously missed. So it’s time for another round up of updates.                                                                                                                     Back at the beginning of this month I looked at these panels in The Pirate Planet, The Armageddon Factor and more. Well, I’ve found one I missed and it’s also from the key to time season. . THE POWER OF KROLL, 1978 THE ARMAGEDDON FACTOR, 1979 In the post about these panels I highlighted a large example from The Armageddon Factor. But also in this story is a smaller panel in the Marshall’s module. If you look at the top you can see the three rows of lights ...

EARLY EIGHTIES BOXY NUMBERS - part 2

Last time I posted all about these small box panels that featured seemingly endless patterns of lights and knobs . Well, this panel design was also often incorporated into larger props. Here are all of the larger versions that I’ve found. Like the individual panels, there is a lot of variation in the layout of the lights, switches etc but they are all made up of the same basic elements. THE KEEPER OF TRAKEN, 1981 FOUR TO DOOMSDAY, 1982 In this case it’s the small cabinet to left of Bigon. EARTHSHOCK, 1982 WARRIORS OF THE DEEP, 1984 THE TWIN DILEMMA, 1984 ATTACK OF THE CYBERMEN, 1985

EARLY EIGHTIES BOXY NUMBERS

This week I’m looking at some computer panels from the early eighties. Like my last post, it’s a group of props that share a common design but are all a little different. They are grey boxes that are divided into two or three sections. And each section features a seemly random arrangement of coloured lights and black knobs. Here is a typical example… They are found in several stories from 1981 to 1984 and, apart from one instance, they all feature a unique pattern of lights and knobs. WARRIORS GATE, 1981 A couple of examples of the two sectioned, smaller, panels. Plus a three sectioned unit peeking out from behind Romana. THE KEEPER OF TRAKEN, 1981 A rare example where the panel is not mounted on a wall. We get a clear look at how these boxes are put together. LOGOPOLIS, 1981 The last of three examples from Season 18. SAND, 1981 In the same year as season 18, we get a couple of appearances in Blake’s 7. First in Sand and then in… BLAKE, 1981 FOUR TO DOOMSDAY, 1982 The first of a couple...

A PIRATE PANEL?

Image
Hello folks! This week I’m looking at some late 70s props that may not be exact matches but definitely share some common DNA. And my starting point was this octagon panel. As far as I can tell this prop is only seen in one Doctor Who story… THE PIRATE PLANET, 1978 The octagon panel is on the Pirate Captain’s bridge, in the middle of this image. Unlike the other examples we are looking to look at, on this occasion it has been illuminated.  REDEMPTION, 1979 The only other example exactly matching the Pirate Planet panel is this one from Blake’s 7.  As mentioned above, here they haven’t bothered to turn the lights on. THE ARMAGEDDON FACTOR, 1979 Although I haven’t found any more exact matches, there are a few variants that feature the same elements. Look at the top and bottom of this prop from The Armageddon Factor, and compare to the inset image from Redemption. There are the same four, yellow coloured, rectangles. And in between those, a smaller white rectangle and small lights...
