BOSS BITS

Image
The inner sanctum of BOSS is a set that is choc full of sci-fi nick nacks. I’ve looked at quite a bit of it already, especially the stuff from UFO and the Flossie computer. But as I trawl the image galleries I occasionally run into some of the small stuff. So here’s a roundup of a few bits from this set. THE GREEN DEATH, 1973 The first thing to look at is this small wall mounted panel featuring a triangle of three circular knobs.  THE MUTANTS, 1972 This panel had appeared the previous year onboard Skybase.  Next up are two larger panels in the ‘seating area’ (for want of a better term). These feature four square dials across the top with one underneath creating a right angle. In the image above the bottom dial is on the right… … and in this view you can see the second panel has the below dial on the left.  DAY OF THE DALEKS, 1972 In this pic from Day of the Daleks you can see both panels (left and right). However, this photo is a bit of a mystery for me. Judging by the ...

JANUARY UPDATE

Image
I’ve been looking at a few different props recently. But there isn’t anything I’ve found enough of to be worth posting. But what always happens when I’m looking for a certain prop is that I inevitably find stuff I’ve already posted about. So here is a round up of all the extra stuff I’ve found. For the anniversary I looked at some of the items in the original TARDIS console room. I’ve found the Syrian Candles in a couple of Season 2 stories. Check them out below.  THE RESCUE, 1965 THE ROMANS, 1965 This distinctive computer from The Invasion, and its variants, crop up quite a bit. I first wrote about them here  and found an appearance from Out of The Unknown here  . Below are two more appearances, one Who and one OOTO. In The Faceless Ones the four ‘doors’ of the computer can be seen on the right. The Out of The Unknown episode is called Lambda 1.  THE FACELESS ONES, 1967 OUT OF THE UNKNOWN, 1966 When I covered the silver frisbee things from the Dalek capsule in Pow...

DESTINY’S SLAVES TO FASHION

Image
Hey! This week I take a look at the Dalek’s slave labour from Destiny. This eclectic bunch are dressed in some familiar looking rags. They basically had whatever could be found in the stores. So let’s dive and see what we can spot. I’ll be highlighting the costumes that are being discussed in this ready brek style. This screen grab is from Destiny Part 4 and we can see a man in a blue and white futuristic suit. That suit comes from… PLANET OF EVIL, 1975 Destiny of the Daleks actually features two sets of slaves. The group on location was a different set of extras to those in the studio. Some of the costumes appear in both and the Morestran suit can be seen on the far left of this screen grab. It does seem to have lost its belt between the location and the studio.  FRONTIER IN SPACE, 1973 The Morestran suit isn’t the only familiar costume in the Destiny screen grab above. As you can see below the Draconian costume from Frontier (minus the belt and jewel) is also present.  And t...

NEW YEAR - SAME OLD STAIRCASE

Image
At Christmas the esteemed YouTube channel Dalek 63.88 released a video about the sets of Classic Who’s infamous holiday special - Feast of Steven. One of the things covered in the video was the spiral staircase I first looked at here . In the background of this picture of Jean Marsh you can just about make it out on the left. THE DALEKS MASTER PLAN, 1965 The spiral staircase has been in the air a bit lately. Between the Dalek 63.88 video and discussion on the Radio Free Skaro podcast it seems to be a topic of some interest. Steven Schapansky of RFS had hinted that I hadn’t found all of the Who appearances of this prop. That prompted me to take another look, and indeed I have found a couple I’d missed.  FURY FROM THE DEEP, 1968 On the veranda at the Harris’ gaff. THE MIND OF EVIL, 1971 A blink and you’ll miss it appearance in this establishing shot of the interior of Stangmoor Prison. The staircase is right on the edge of this set and as a result doesn’t often appear on screen. TH...
