SCAFFOLDING NINETEEN SIXTY FIVE!

Image
A few weeks ago Alan Barnes ( senrabnala.bsky.social ) suggested I take a look at the metal, scaffolding like, frames that appear in a number of Sixties stories. A past Doctor Who Magazine editor and Big Finish script editor, Alan’s credits are so long and varied who am I to refuse 😀. And then Daleks Master Plan 1 and 3 came back and it felt like the Universe was telling me I had to do it. Looking into their use, they seemed to only appear briefly during the mid Sixties. But for a short time in the middle of that decade they were very popular indeed. In fact, had Ian Chesterton been around I’m sure he would have exclaimed - SCAFFOLDING 1965! THE DALEKS MASTER PLAN PRODUCTION DOCUMENT The frames are probably best known as appearing in The Daleks Master Plan. Above is a design document created by Ray Cusick showing the specifications of the frames. However Master Plan wasn’t the scaffoldings first appearance because…. OUT OF THE UNKNOWN : TIME IN ADVANCE, 1965 …beating The Nightmare Beg...

APRIL UPDATE

Image
It’s been a little while since I’ve done an update on past Prop Hunt props. As is always the case, stuff gets drawn to my attention, or I find stuff on my travels. And now I’ve collected a few it’s time to do a quick round up.  I first cover the Syrian candles here , and they popped up in an update here . This prop is synonymous with the original TARDIS Console Room but also appears in Marco Polo and The Rescue. Well, now you can add The Myth Makers to that list. You can see one of them behind Steven in the image below.  THE MYTH MAKERS, 1965 Back in February I posted about some hubcaps from Destiny of the Daleks, Resurrection of the Daleks, and Blake’s 7. Well, I missed an appearance as they pop up in State of Decay, as seen below. I need to thank @beeblepete.bsky.social for this one. STATE OF DECAY, 1980 In November I wrote about a spiral staircase that was popular in Doctor Who and Blake’s 7 in the early Eighties. I called that post Part 1  as I figured it would turn u...

SPACE WASHBOARDS - PART 2

Image
It’s been a while since this has happened, but my recent post about these washboard like metal panels prompted people to get in touch to suggest more stuff. So here it is Space Washboards - Part 2. RED DWARF: SERIES VI, 1993 @md05.bsky.social  has been a massive supporter of this blog, regularly supplying suggestions. For these metal boards they mentioned they had been part of the Starbug set in Red Dwarf. You can see the tell tale circular holes at the top of the image. SHADA, 1979 @markaldridge.info  sent me this photo of the studio set up for Shada. At the top of the image you can see a grouping of washboards. These do not feature in any of the completed Shada footage so Mark suggested the maybe part of the studio lighting rig. And then I was checking back through old Bluesky notifications and realised @beeblepete.bsky.social  had already sent me this some time ago. Like Mark, Pete suggested they could have been some kind of studio equipment. He suggested they might b...

TEMPERATURES RISING

Image
This one needs to be credited to Zoe’s Feather Boa. ZFB is someone who has helped me a lot since I started this blog. They frequently post about props they have spotted on Bluesky. Make sure to give them a follow at zoesfeatherboa.bsky.social. They mentioned these thermostat props a while ago. I haven’t found them anywhere else so here are the appearances they found. THE SEEDS OF DEATH,1969 Seeds features two of these props, and they are subtly different. In the shot above you can see the prop has a light coloured face. But when it’s shown in the close up, seen in the picture below, the face is much darker. The text is white, or at least a light tone, while it appears darker in the first picture.  THE SEEDS OF DEATH, 1969 COLONY IN SPACE, 1971 The pair of Thermostats next pop up, both with darkly coloured faces, in Colony in Space. PERCY, 1971 One of the thermostats can be seen in the 1971 sex comedy Percy. THE MUTANTS, 1972 And finally, one year later, one of them can be seen in T...
