UFO Sightings, Part 3

Image
Hello folks! I’ll start by saying I think this is my last Gerry Anderson themed post for now. I have one more avenue to look into but otherwise I think this one covers everything that I know about and haven’t posted so far. And I’ll start with a well known one.  THIRD DOCTOR’S SONIC The Sonic Scewdriver was actually created by combining two Gerry Anderson props. The main body is a full sized prop from the film Thunderbirds Are Go and the topper is from the Captain Scarlet episode, Model Spy. Like all of the props I have featured so far, these were obtained by the BBC in the early Seventies when Century 21 closed its doors.  CAPTAIN SCARLET, MODEL SPY, 1967 / THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO, 1966 ************************************** SMALL BLUE TICKER TAPE THINGY in SHADO CONTROL ROOM To the left of George Sewell in the UFO screen grab above is a small blue unit that spews out a ream of ticker tape. This turns up in the laboratory of Professor Whitaker.  INVASION OF THE DINOSAURS, 19...

It’s part 2 of my round up of Gerry Anderson props in Classic Who. If you haven’t seen it, please check out part 1 here . Last time I was looking at just one prop, this time it’s  a few different items. So let’s dive in. MOONBASE DESK CONTROL PANEL - FOUND IN ‘THE STONES OF BLOOD’, 1978 The centre piece of the UFO Moonbase set is a large circular desk. In a previous post I mentioned that it features heavily in The Green Death . Well, the curved control panel from this prop also turns up in The Stones of Blood.  UFO WAIST HEIGHT BROWN TAPE UNIT THING - FOUND IN THE ARMAGEDDON FACTOR, 1978 This is another one that also appeared in The Green Death. It’s at this point I should mention that the names I have given these props are entirely my invention. Just in case you were thinking UFO waist height brown tape unit thing was written in some paperwork somewhere.  SUPERMARIONATION TAPES This is the first prop I’m looking at which has come from one of Anderson’s puppet shows rathe...

UFO Sightings, Part 1

A while ago now I posted about props that had started life in UFO and had ended up in The Green Death. And now I’m returning to this topic as there are loads more Gerry Anderson props in Doctor Who. This is the first post in what is likely to be a three, or more, part series trying to track them all down.  This first post is all about the long rectangular panels like the one pictured above. In previous posts I had mentioned their appearances in both The Green Death and Destiny of the Daleks. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg as they pop up all over the place. UFO featured a range of these panels, all differing significantly in the layout of their lights and switches. But they can be divided into two basic groups, ones that are straight and ones that are curved. The curved panels featured heavily in UFO’s Moonbase as, not surprisingly, it was a circular set. The straight ones feature all over the place but often appear on desks. Here are all of the straight panel appearances I ...
