APRIL UPDATE
It’s been a little while since I’ve done an update on past Prop Hunt props. As is always the case, stuff gets drawn to my attention, or I find stuff on my travels. And now I’ve collected a few it’s time to do a quick round up.
I first cover the Syrian candles here, and they popped up in an update here. This prop is synonymous with the original TARDIS Console Room but also appears in Marco Polo and The Rescue. Well, now you can add The Myth Makers to that list. You can see one of them behind Steven in the image below.

In November I wrote about a spiral staircase that was popular in Doctor Who and Blake’s 7 in the early Eighties. I called that post Part 1 as I figured it would turn up again. Well I found it in another show. And this one it is a little surprising. It was part of the set for the 1984 A Song For Europe contest. The artist in this image is Helen Robertson.

Speaking of spiral staircases let’s take another look at the original. Because, bugger me, I’ve found it in Who again. I was certain I’d seen them all but then I noticed the distinctive shape made by the gaps under each step in this image from The Happiness Patrol. For those keeping score I believe this spiral is the clockwise one last seen in The Sunmakers. Surely this is their last appearance in Classic Who.

And bringing us right up to date, I have some more info on the washboards I covered here and here. I have been on a real journey with these things. At first I assumed they were just props. Then, because of that picture of them suspended from the studio ceiling during filming for Shada, I thought they must be some kind of TV equipment. And then I was back to thinking they were props again as they currently belong to prop house, The Trading Post. Well it turns out they are equipment after all. @beeblepete.bsky.social writes - It’s a ….heat exchanger plate, found in factory, heating and aircon systems worldwide. Hot and cold fluids enter two holes to travel in parallel across the plate, which leeches the temperature to/from the fluids, which emerge as the other temperature!
So there you have it. Pete also provided these images below
