MORE FROM GLOBAL CHEMICALS

So, with this post we are still hanging around in the computer room of Global Chemicals. I previously looked at those props that had been inherited from Gerry Anderson’s early Seventies live action drama UFO. Now, I’m looking at a prop that was already a familiar item from the beginning of the Pertwee era.

In the images below are three grey rectangular panels attached to the walls of The Green Death set. I’ve numbered them 1, 2, and 3 so you can see what I’m talking about.
Here they are side by side for direct comparsion. The basic layout of the switches and lights are consistent across all three panels. The only really clear difference between them is the colour of the darker third of the panel, on the right hand side. Also panel 2 seems to have only one small white square in that darker section compared to two in the others. However I’m too not worried about Panel 2 as it’s only Panels 1 and 3 that I have found in other stories. I’ve included it here for completeness sake.
As mentioned these panels crop up in stories across the Pertwee era and beyond in a variety of different sets. Sometimes they are wall mounted like The Green Death and in some cases they are built into consoles.
TERROR OF THE AUTONS, 1971

This is the earliest story I have found them in. Panel 1 is built into the console on the left of this screen grab from Terror of the Autons.
THE SEA DEVILS, 1972

Panel 1 is seen here mounted on the wall of the small submarine set.
THE TIME MONSTER, 1972

Panel 1 is pressed into service again, this time in the Newton Institute Laboratory. You can find it on the right of this image.
THE TIME WARRIOR, 1974

This one is a twofer! Panel 1 can be seen on the left and Panel 3 on the right.
REVENGE OF THE CYBERMEN, 1975

Panel 1 lives on beyond the Pertwee years and can be found on Space Station Nerva.
TERMINUS, 1983

One last appearance for Panel 1 and we have made it to the Eighties. This is the set where the Terminus pilot sits.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be back next week with another post.
