UFO SIGHTINGS - the other shows PART 2

Back in August I posted a round up of props from Gerry Anderson’s UFO I’d found in a variety of non Who shows. It was a sort of coda to the many many posts I’d published about these props in Doctor Who. But I was just scratching surface as these props were ubiquitous throughout the Seventies and Eighties. So here is another round up of stuff I’ve come across during the last 9 months. I’ve organised it by prop. So in some cases I’ll return to the same shows/episodes as they feature more than one prop.

UFO’s rectangular panels of flashing lights and buttons came in a variety of configurations in both straight and curved versions. Straight variants appear in The Green Death, The Monster of Peladon, Genesis of the Daleks, The Robots of Death, The Invisible Enemy, Underworld, The Armageddon Factor, Destiny of the Daleks, and Resurrection of the Daleks.

STAR MAIDENS, 1976

This British / German co-production was filmed in the UK at Bray Studios. In this screen grab you can see a number of different straight rectangular panels.

ROBERT’S ROBOTS, 1973

A lesser kids comedy from the pen of Rentaghost creator, Bob Block.
THE STANLEY BAXTER PICTURE SHOW, 1975

From Baxter’s ambitious disaster movie parody Towering Quake ‘75
FREEWHEELERS, 1971

From series 6 of the Southern TV kids adventure series starring Who’s own Wendy Padbury. The panels can be seen behind Wendy’s head.

The curved variants of the rectangular panel appear in The Time Warrior, Invasion of the Dinosaurs,The Ark in Space, Revelation of the Daleks

GALLOPING GALAXIES, 1985

Another Bob Block kids Sci- Fi comedy.

The larger UFO desks feature in The Green Death, The Monster of Peladon, The Face of Evil, The Mutants, and Robot

ROBERT’S ROBOTS, 1973

Back to that Robert’s Robots screen cap. Under the rectangular panels is one of the classic desks. It’s immediately recognisable by the baby blue of the edge of the desk.

JASON KING, 1971

The screen grab is from the episode A Deadly Line in Digits. This episode features a number of UFO props. The desk can be seen bottom right.

The wide blue reel to reel computer unit was my entry point into looking at the UFO props. These beauties can be found in The Green Death, The Time Warrior, The Androids of Tara, Destiny of the Daleks.

JASON KING, 1971

Back to that Jason King screen grab the wide blue computers can be seen on the right behind the desk.
STAR MAIDENS, 1976

And back again with Star Maidens there are two wide blue computers on the right.
THE OMEGA FACTOR, 1979

This off colour version of the wide computer was also seen in Blakes 7

Sister of the wide bodied blue reel to reel is this tall slimmer model. This guy appears in The Android Invasion, Underworld, and Destiny of the Daleks.
STAR MAIDENS, 1976

Just like the SHADO HQ in UFO, the tall blue is pictured here next to the wide blue.
JASON KING, 1971

And back again to Jason King. Two tall blues are seen on the left of the set.

This tall unit from UFO’s fantastical submarine, the Skydiver, appears in The Green Death.
JASON KING, 1971

It’s the same Jason King episode but a different part of the same set. Two of these tall units can be seen at the back.
THE MIND OF MR. SOAMES, 1970

This 1970 Amicus film stars Terence Stamp and Robert Vaughan.

This last prop is the small blue ticker tape thing seen in Invasion of the Dinosaurs, The Androids of Tara, Planet of the Daleks, and The Time Warrior.
SOME MOTHERS DO ‘AVE ‘EM, 1973

From the episode The Employment Exchange. And yes, that is another familiar prop on the right.

That’s it for this time. I’m almost certain that I’ll find more of these props in the coming months. So there may well be a part 3 at some point.
